From Blank Canvas to a Website Full of Character

What if a website didn’t have to look like a website? That was the exact question that kicked off this creative project.

Instead of taking the usual route of clean grid sections, generic icons, and stock visuals, our team built an online space with genuine personality. We wanted to create a site that felt fully illustrated, vibrant, and playful. Above all, we needed it deeply connected to the Crepe Runner brand.

So, we opened our sketchbooks and started drawing.

We Illustrated Every Single Detail

To bring this custom vision to life, our team illustrated every visual element on the website from scratch. We created sweeping custom backgrounds, dynamic characters, specialized menu icons, and decorative accents.

Individually, small details seem simple. But together, they form one complete, interactive world.

Our primary goal wasn’t just adding artwork to a web page. Instead, we created a distinct visual vibe while keeping the brand instantly recognizable to customers.

Keeping the Iconic Brand Colors Alive

Even with complete creative freedom, we kept the client’s signature brand colors front and center.

Naturally, those warm yellow and orange shades became our starting point. Rather than introducing a totally new palette, we built every character and background around their established color identity.

This approach allowed us to push the visual style much further without losing immediate brand recognition.

From Rough Sketches to Final Artwork

Bringing a custom design concept to life required a clear, step-by-step process:

  1. Initial Brief and Concept Exploration: First, we analyzed the project goals and sketched out our initial directions.
  2. Client Review and Alignment: Next, we presented those early ideas to lock in the overall creative direction.
  3. Refinement, Illustration, and Coloring: Finally, our illustrators moved into full-scale digital rendering.

During this phase, rough ideas took shape fast. Quick pencil sketches evolved into expressive characters. Concepts expanded into detailed environments. On top of that, individual drawings came together into one unified visual language across the whole site.

Designing Artwork Prepared for the Web

However, creating artwork intended for a website comes with unique creative considerations. Illustrating for a web layout is very different from drawing on a single, static canvas.

Because of this, we could not just draw one giant image and call it a day. Instead, our team carefully structured every illustration so the web development team could build the site smoothly:

  • Isolated Graphics: We drew backgrounds separately so text could sit on top of them cleanly.
  • Flexible Design Pieces: We broke every section down into individual drawings so they would look great on mobile screens.
  • Layout Adjustments: We continually tweaked visual proportions to fit the web team’s layout setup.

As a result, the project became a great balance between creative freedom and practical design delivery. Honestly, seeing our raw artwork come to life on a live website was one of the most rewarding parts of the process.

Building a Website With True Brand Character

The final outcome delivered far more than a simple collection of drawings. The custom backgrounds, unique icons, and original characters functioned as one cohesive visual identity, giving the site an unforgettable personality.

To be clear, our role was entirely focused on creating the complete illustrated visual direction and artwork. Meanwhile, a separate company handled the web development and site build.

Ultimately, our team turned a blank digital space into a living visual world. Sometimes, the best way to make a website stand out isn’t making it look like every other site online. It’s making it look like it truly belongs to the brand.
